What an Event Network Risk Assessment Actually Covers
Venue rights, critical-application mapping, segmentation design, data responsibility, pathways, and a preliminary bill of materials — produced before a single circuit is ordered or a case of gear leaves the warehouse.
Every event network failure post-mortem reads the same way. The event opens, the payment terminals time out, the registration scanners drop, and a dozen vendors stand in a circle pointing at each other — the venue blames the carrier, the carrier blames the AV crew, the AV crew blames the venue. By then it is far too late to design anything. The decisions that determine whether your network holds were made weeks earlier, in a freight order and a venue contract that nobody stress-tested.
The Event Network Risk Assessment exists to move those decisions to the front, where they’re cheap to change. It is the first engagement in how we work, and it is a scoped, written deliverable rather than a quick sales call. You’re not getting a pitch — you’re getting the engineering judgment that tells you whether a deployment is even feasible before you commit non-refundable money to it.
Why the assessment gates the spend
Live-event networking has an unusual cost structure: the most expensive, least reversible commitments happen earliest. Carrier circuits often carry non-cancellable provisions and multi-week lead times. Specialty gear gets reserved and freighted. Deposits get placed against a deployment date that can’t move. And underneath all of it sits the single biggest risk in the entire model: venue access. A technically perfect network is worthless if the venue won’t authorize it, or if an exclusive in-house provider forbids a third-party overlay entirely.
The assessment is the gate between “this looks deployable” and “we are now spending money we can’t get back.” Its entire job is to surface the showstoppers — venue exclusivity, pathway constraints, data-responsibility boundaries, RF saturation — while they are still line items on a page instead of a crew standing idle on setup day.
Put plainly: we would rather surface a venue that won’t permit an overlay during the assessment than let you discover it after the deposits clear. That’s the economics the assessment protects on both sides.
What the assessment actually delivers
The output is a written document, not a verbal “yeah, we can do that.” It maps the event’s mission-critical traffic, designs the network that will carry it, and outlines a preliminary path to deployment. Here is what each section covers and why it earns its place in the scope.

Venue rights come first — always
We lead with authorization because venue denial is the number-one way an event network deal dies. LGL supplements venue circuits where permitted and never bypasses venue exclusivity or touches venue pathways without written permission. The assessment establishes, in writing, whether a Critical Operations Network overlay can sit behind the venue circuit — and exactly what authorization the organizer needs to hold before we provision anything.
Critical-application mapping, not bandwidth math
The assessment is not about megabits. It’s about which systems cannot blink. A payment terminal, a registration scanner, a streaming encoder, and a show-control console each have different tolerance for latency, jitter, and failover time. Mapping them is how we decide what gets a wired drop, what gets redundancy, and what can live on shared infrastructure.
Data responsibility defined at the transport layer
LGL operates at the transport layer. We do not run the client’s payment or registration applications, and cardholder or attendee data never touches or is stored by us — but we do define the data-responsibility boundary and the shared-responsibility split so there’s no ambiguity about who owns what. The assessment documents that boundary up front, which is also why payment and registration traffic always sit on isolated segments rather than the open attendee network.
What it sets up next
The assessment is step one of a deliberate sequence: Risk Assessment → written venue authorization → Critical Operations Overlay → monitor through teardown → post-event report. Each step de-risks the next. By the time you’re placing deposits, the venue has authorized the work, the segmentation is designed, the data-responsibility boundary is drawn, and the BOM is grounded in a real site — not a guess. That’s the whole point of doing it first.
